Plans & Pricing
FreshBooks features a relatively inflexible pricing model with three plans – Lite, Plus and Premium. While the cheapest package can be ideal for small businesses and entrepreneurs, it’s very limited in terms of functionality, which basically forces users to opt for the Plus package.
However, regarding solely the project management aspect, the Lite package will be enough to take advantage of everything the tool has to offer.
The Lite plan is $15/month and includes unlimited invoices and estimates, time tracking, and expense management. It allows you to accept credit card payments online and automatically imports expenses from the user’s bank account. The plan is designed for working with up to five clients.
The Plus plan is $25/month and includes all of the Lite plan features and more. There is additional functionality such as charging late fees for overdue invoices, accessing double-entry accounting reports & tools, adjusting general ledger with journal entries, scheduling recurring invoices, sending proposals, collaborating with accountants, etc. The plan is designed for working with up to 50 clients.
The Premium plan is $50/month and offers all the same features as Plus, but is designed for working with up to 500 clients.
All of the plans give access to project management features. Incorporating an additional team member costs $10 for each person/monthly. There is also a free 30-day, guaranteed trial available to determine the effectiveness of the tool before making a purchase.
FreshBooks is an all-in-one accounting software geared towards small businesses, entrepreneurs and freelancers. It helps users streamline their accounting, pay bills, send invoices and manage payroll functions and projects. Founded in 2002 and based in Canada, the company has achieved worldwide recognition and has been successfully used by clients from numerous industries.
The app combines the management of invoices, expenses and projects in a single dashboard. This review will focus on project management features.
Features and Functionality
The functionality of the project management tool offers nothing out of the ordinary since the software is primarily designed for managing invoices. Instead, the project management features are designed to help businesses and freelancers manage their projects from the same dashboard, without having to switch apps.
The FreshBooks project management tool performs most of the usual things you’d expect from such a tool. You can assign due dates to projects, view the status of all projects from a dashboard, share images and post comments, assign hour rates, etc.
It’s worth noting that the tool is primarily useful when used in conjunction with the invoicing and expense tracking tools and lacks a lot of functionality when considered as a standalone choice. Here are the most useful features:
You have the option to invite team members, contractors/freelancers, and clients to projects, which is very handy when working on numerous projects simultaneously. Also, if you’re using the invoicing tool, you can bill clients and pay freelancers without the need to switch apps based on both hourly and fixed rates.
Users have the option to give different levels of access to each team member, contractor and client. This comes especially handy when you take into account security and intellectual property, reducing the chance of data theft and malfeasance.
Time tracking and instant billing
When used in conjunction with the invoicing tool, the project management tool can be used to bill clients, send invoices and pay freelancers from the same dashboard, without having to switch apps. Time tracking allows you to assign specific times and dates to each project, and keep everything under control.
Ease of Use
FreshBooks is extremely easy to use. The user-friendly, intuitive and simple interface makes it easy to quickly find anything you need and arrange activities in no time. There is absolutely no learning curve involved, anybody can effectively use the software from the first minute.
Applications and Integrations
The reporting section of the tool is primarily focused on invoices, payments, expenses and taxes. There are no project management-related reports. As for the integrations, FresBooks can be easily integrated with a high variety of tools related to invoicing, expenses, marketing, payments, team collaboration and project management including Trello, Asana, Slack, Salesforce, MailChimp, DropBox, G-Suite, etc.
FreshBooks can be accessed via any browser and works well on most popular operating systems. The setup is easy and doesn’t require much information from the user. The mobile app can be downloaded on both Android and iOS and it can be used to keep track of all projects and features most of the functionality available in the desktop app.
FreshBooks’ customer support team has received a recognition award for the excellent service they provide. The quality of the support is very high and doesn’t depend on the pricing plan.

FreshBooks project management tool offers a simple set of features designed to support the core product: a billing and invoicing application. The tool is recommended for small businesses and individuals who are using the other functions of FreshBooks and need to work together with freelancers, clients, and accountants on a regular basis. However, as a standalone project management tool, FreshBooks lacks a lot of essential functionality, which can be found in many other products on the market.
